Equilibrium’s first concert of the 2019-2020 season brings together duos, trios, and quartets by international composers from across the US and Brazil, Chile, and Iran who have all have studied in new England, plus two American composers from opposite coasts, all of whom have created very personal pieces using these staple ensembles. Works by Andre Mestre, Clifton Ingram, Michelle Lou, Bahar Royaee, and Pedro Alvarez.

(an interactive performance installation)

Featuring guest artists: Kristen Dye, Seiko Matsuzaki, Bahar Royaee, Mischa Salkind-Pearl

Join us for a long-format performance of TABLELANDS by Clifton Ingram. Our installation will run from 12pm to 3pm, during which you can come and go as you please and stay as long as you like (open house style).

TABLELANDS is designed to mimic a landscape with adaptive flora and fauna. The performers move nomadically between “satellite-stations,” taking and leaving the instrumental means that contribute to an overall ecosystem of sound and motion.

In order to experience its subtleties, the audience is asked to navigate the same space as the performers. This breach of the barrier between performer and audience creates an immersive atmosphere where perspective and choice dramatically change experience.

The music of two Chicagoan friends, Nomi Epstein's Sextet and Drew Baker's Charon, will be featured, as well as music by EQ composers Daniel Lewis' (The Way We Wander) and Mischa Salkind-Pearl’s (A Poppy of Erasure). Clifton Ingram is a Boston-based artist who composes music for live performance by a variety of instrumentalists. "Four Instrumentals" is a collection of three early pieces and an improvisation that straddle an often quiet and dimly-lit threshold between longing and fulfillment, and between delicate obstinance and soured gratification.

And I'm in good company - fellow composers Justin Barish and Cindy Giron will also be on the program.
